“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
I am confident… I am convinced…
I am confident that He is the God of the beginning, middle, and end. I am confident that He is on the throne and has good plans. I am confident that He’s not finished with me yet.
I am convinced that He loves me, and that nothing – not one single thing – can separate me from His unconditional, unlimited, unfailing love.
That word “confident” from Philippians 1:6 is the same word as “convinced” from Romans 8:38 in the Greek. “Peithō” means “to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy, to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexively or passively, to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty)… to be persuaded, to suffer oneself to be persuaded; to be induced to believe; to have faith; to believe… to trust, have confidence, be confident.” It comes from the root meaning “to bind.”
It’s easy to be confident and convinced – to be persuaded of the truth – when things are going well.
It’s another thing to be confident and convinced when doubt creeps in – when the enemy tries to deceive with his lies.
But here’s some good news: God doesn’t need our confidence or convincing for the truth to be true.
He will finish what He started. And He will always love us.
The enemy would love to get us off track with that age-old deception from the garden of Eden: “Did God really say…?”
Yes; He really did.
Even when I’m having a hard day. Even when I’m facing impossible circumstances. Even when I’m overwhelmed by all the things on my plate.
I can be certain that He’s with me in the middle of my mess, and that He will place me where I’m meant to be. I may not see perfection this side of Heaven, but I trust that I will when I see Jesus face to face.
And until that day, I believe that His love is more than enough. In Him, we are more than conquerors because of His love for us.
Don’t let the lie overshadow the truth. You’re not alone, and you are dearly loved.
