As Advent comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the fourth and final theme: peace.

To me, peace is a result of assurance and trust. It’s often quiet, still, silent.
No matter what’s happening on the outside, I can have peace and wholeness on the inside. Even in uncertainty and in the face of unanswered questions, peace is here.
Sometimes you have to make space for peace. You have to be intentional, make a plan, and choose peace.
In the midst of a pandemic and job loss, with four kids remote learning and Christmas preparation in full swing, my husband and I got away from it all for 18 hours. In part to celebrate 15 years of marriage, but also to slow down and take a much needed break from life as we know it. Our trip was short and sweet and overflowing with peace. It was exactly what we needed. A beautiful gift, planned months ago, that we got to unwrap at just the right time.
There were moments leading up to our getaway where it would have been easier to just stay home and cancel the trip. But I would have missed out on this refilling of peace, this refocusing on what matters.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and He is Immanuel – God with us. He came near to be with us. This is why we celebrate.
His light pierced the darkness. His love drove out the fear. The hope of His coming manifested as grace was given. Joy came, and peace followed.
We have peace because He came and He is coming again.
We have peace because He is with us and in us and He surrounds us.
He is peace.
“Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].” – Colossians 3:15 (AMP)
Receive the gift of peace this Christmas. Breathe it in. Don’t trade it for anything. Let the inner calm, the fruit of relationship with Him, guide your heart. Believe that you are dearly loved. Rest well in His presence.
He is near. He is here.
