As For Me

It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through December. The year is quickly coming to a close! Which also means I am almost done reading my Daily Chronological Bible. I have loved the accountability and discipline of daily reading, as well as seeing how God can bring to light and life certain verses at just the right time.

Earlier this year, during a week in the Psalms, one of my favorite phrases that caught my eye was “as for me”.

“But as for me, it is good to be near God.” – Psalm‬ ‭73:28‬

“As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me.” – Psalm 55:16

“But as for me, I trust in you.” – Psalm‬ ‭55:23‬

“But as for me, afflicted and in pain — may your salvation, God, protect me.” – Psalm‬ ‭69:29‬

“But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay.” – Psalm‬ ‭70:5‬

“As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.” – Psalm 71:14

As for me, it is good to be near God. As for me, I call to God and trust in Him. As for me, even in affliction and pain and need, I can look to Him for protection and provision. As for me, I will cling to hope and praise His name.

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” – Micah 7:7

This past Monday, Romans 16:20 was illuminated in my morning reading.

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”

‭‭I carried it through my day. Which was a good thing because some things happened Monday that really shook me up. This verse brought me strength and encouragement.

As for me… my God of peace will soon crush my enemy under my feet.

I’ve been reflecting on this verse all week. We fight from victory, because Jesus was victorious for our sake. The war is won, even though the battle rages on. But I am not defeated; as for me, I trust, I hope, and I believe Him for victory. What the enemy intends for evil, God can turn to the good.

The word for peace here in the Greek is eirēnē, and it means “peace: according to a conception distinctly peculiar to Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is; the Lord who is the author and promoter of peace.”

The Greek word for will soon is tachos (looks a little like tacos…), and it means “a brief space (of time), in haste; quickly, shortly.”

Crush in the Greek is syntribō; it means “to crush completely, i.e. to shatter; to put Satan under foot and (as a conqueror) trample on him.”

Our God, who is the Author and Promoter of our peace, will shortly (and quickly) trample Satan under our feet, until he is completely crushed and shattered.

We are victorious; we are more than conquerors.

Be encouraged tonight; the grace of Jesus is with you. Keep your eyes fixed on Him.
