God is Faithful

I recently started reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, and it is radically changing the way I see my everyday life. I’m learning to take note of God and His faithfulness all around me… learning to give thanks in everything… learning to find joy right where I am.

“The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food at the proper time. You open Your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.” – Psalm 145:13b-16

I love this passage! God is always faithful! And I love that His faithfulness doesn’t depend on me or my circumstances. It’s who He is. He is faithful in everything! He is loving toward all He has made. He gives grace to the humble in heart, and He provides for our every need. He alone can satisfy the desires of our hearts. What He says will happen, in His perfect timing.

“For your thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:8-11

In my limited view of time and eternity, I sometimes find myself believing that my way, my will, would be better. It’s my flesh, my selfish nature, my pride – to think that I know better or that I could do better. But the truth is, the Word says, that God’s ways and thoughts are much higher than mine. God is outside of time; He sees the big picture. He knows the beginning, middle, and end of each of our stories. We can trust that He knows what He’s doing.

“For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.” – Psalm 33:4

God is faithful in all that He does. When we’re faithful to keep our eyes fixed and focused on Him, He gives us what He need at the very moment we need it. It takes trusting, and waiting on Him. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” We don’t have to waver in our faith and give way to fear. We can recall what God has done and is doing in our lives right now, and believe that He will continue to be faithful in the future.

It’s who He is.

  1. So good to “hear” from you again …… one of my favorite attributes of God is His faithfulness! You write so well and put into words what many of us feel but could not articulate as you do. Loved the song too!
