The Father Who Knows

I love when certain areas of my life overlap in meaningful ways. My teenage daughter and I are currently on a book launch team for Elizabeth Laing Thompson’s upcoming release, All the Feels for Teens! I’m also part of a Bible Study for Psalms 61-90 from The Daily Grace Co. called Seek. This past week I read and studied Psalm 69; it is filled with so many deep feelings and raw emotions!

Take some time to read through all of Psalm 69. I highlighted some of my favorite words and verses, but Psalm 69:19-20 really stood out to me:

“You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.” (NIV)

“See how they dishonor me in shame and disgrace? You know, Lord, what I’m going through, and You see it all. I’m heartsick and heartbroken by it all. Their contempt has crushed my soul. I looked for sympathy and compassion but found only empty stares.” (TPT‬‬)

“You know…”

Two small, common words… but together they bring such assurance and strength. God knows. He’s a know-it-all, in the best sense of the phrase. He’s not arrogant with His knowledge; He’s loving, patient and kind. He knows it all before we even say a word. He sees us, He hears us, His understanding knows no limits, and He cares deeply about us.

God is omniscient; Webster’s defines omniscient as “knowing everything : having unlimited understanding or knowledge; having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight; possessed of universal or complete knowledge.”

God knows it all, but He also loves when we come to Him and share our thoughts, when we’re honest about our feelings and emotions. We don’t have to pretend with Him; we don’t have to fake it ‘til we make it.

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.” – Hebrews 4:14-15

Jesus faced everything we face (and He remained sinless)! We can stand firm in faith because He knows – He’s able to sympathize and He’s faithful to help.

God keeps bringing Psalm 68:19 to mind: “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Selah”

He daily bears our burdens (praise God!), but am I bringing my burdens to Him daily? Am I laying them at His feet and trusting Him to carry them? Am I really letting go? Or am I picking them back up as soon as I set them down?

Wherever you’re at today, it’s my hope and prayer that you’re encouraged in this very moment. That you find rest in the Truth that God knows. He knows what you’re going through and how you’re feeling about it. He’s not oblivious or distant. He’s with you, and He know how to turn things to good – in His perfect timing.
