Adore

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Pennsylvania! The snow has been falling since noon today… our first big snow of the season.

Some people say we can’t do Christmas things before Thanksgiving… but we celebrated early with my mom last Saturday so we’re in the clear 🙂

One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is “O Come Let Us Adore Him“. There’s just something about that word adore…

“Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly: ‘O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!'” – 1 Chronicles‬ ‭29:10-13‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

That part of verse 11 jumped off the page at me this morning! We adore Him… He is the One (and only) who is over all things. Not some – all. Living or dead, good or bad, happy or sad. Every single thing in the heavens and on earth is His. Ephesians 4:6 says there is “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

And He’s worthy to be adored.

Webster’s definition of adore is “to worship or honor as a deity or as divine, to regard with loving admiration and devotion, to be very fond of.”

How do we adore Him? We worship Him. We lift high the name of Jesus. We give thanks and praise to the One who strengthens us. We exalt Him, instead of our problems and trouble. We keep our eyes fixed on the Author and Perfecter of our faith, not distracted by the lies and schemes of the enemy. We are committed and devoted to Him, full of loving admiration. Inspired by Him. We are fond of Him and want to spend time with Him.

I pray that we’ll take time in the busyness of the season, that we’ll be intentional to make moments to pause and adore. That we’ll choose worship over worry. That we’ll pick His Word over what the world says. That we’ll remember all the ways He loves us and then be a conduit of His love.

Come, let us adore Him!
